Founding DevOps Engineer
Seattle • On‑site, five days/week
About Actual AI
The biggest barriers to AI adoption in software engineering are the friction of human context switching and the opacity of context for AI agents. Actual AI is the glue that enables the modern software‑engineering team. Already serving Fortune 20 customers, we're hiring founding engineers who want to change how software gets built - forever.
Why we need you
Modern software teams deploy dozens of services across cloud, hybrid, and air-gapped environments. The humans keeping those systems healthy are drowning in alerts, runbooks, and manual toil. We believe the next step in AI-assisted engineering is an agent that understands your infrastructure as deeply as it understands your code. You will build that agent.
What you'll do
You will own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Actual AI’s DevOps agent. From ingesting signals across CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and cloud providers to surfacing actionable recommendations and automating remediation, you will define what an AI-native operations experience looks like. You will work directly with founders and early customers to shape the product from the ground up.
You might be a great fit if you
- Are an experienced DevOps or platform engineer. This is not an entry-level position. There is no strict YOE requirement, but you must have extensive referenceable production experience.
- Have felt the pain of triaging 3 AM incidents with fragmented logs, silent alerts, and runbooks no one has touched in months — and believe an agent should handle that instead of you.
- Have designed and operated CI/CD pipelines at scale (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Buildkite, or similar) and know where they break.
- Are fluent in Kubernetes: you can write, debug, and optimize manifests, Helm charts, and operators without reaching for a cheat sheet.
- Have integrated with at least one major observability stack (Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, PagerDuty) and have opinions on what makes alerting actually useful.
- Can write production-quality code in TypeScript, Go, or Python to build the data pipelines, agent tooling, and APIs that power the DevOps agent.
- Thrive on end-to-end ownership — from infrastructure telemetry ingestion to the agent action that resolves the incident.
- Bonus points: You’ve built at, or founded, a fast-growing startup.
- Bonus points: You have experience deploying in air-gapped or on-premises environments.
- Bonus points: You’ve built or contributed to open-source infrastructure or DevOps tooling.
- Extreme bonus points: You already have ideas for what the DevOps agent’s first autonomous action should be.
